About Carol Porter, REALTOR®

I am a licensed Hawaiʻi real estate salesperson with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Island Lifestyle, serving homeowners and families on Hawaiʻi Island.

I have lived the Big Island lifestyle for more than 22 years on the Kohala Coast. My connection to the island, its communities, and its distinctive real estate markets informs my work with buyers, sellers, property owners, and families facing important property decisions.

My professional background extends well beyond real estate. I spent decades in technology, software engineering, systems development, and project management, eventually founding and operating a web development business. That experience taught me how to organize complex information, examine problems from multiple perspectives, and coordinate work involving many people and competing priorities.

I'm a lifelong investor, having begun investing when I entered the workforce in my twenties, and have been involved in real estate investing in Hawaiʻi since the late 1990s, including multiple 1031 exchanges. Property ownership has given me a practical appreciation for the financial, operational, and personal responsibilities that accompany real estate.

I created Real Estate Guidance for Life’s Transitions because important property questions often arise during difficult or unexpected circumstances: the death of a family member, divorce, retirement, changing health needs, or a move. These situations deserve thoughtful consideration, not a sales pitch.

My goal is to help people understand their options, identify the questions that need further investigation, and recognize when an attorney, tax professional, lender, insurance professional, or other qualified adviser should be involved.

Selling is not always the right answer. Sometimes keeping a property, renting it, modifying it, or taking more time to decide makes better sense.

This site is an educational resource built around that philosophy. I hope it helps you approach your next property decision with greater clarity and confidence.

The promise behind this site

“Understand your options. Identify the questions that need answers. Make your next property decision with a plan.”

I created Real Estate Guidance for Life’s Transitions because most big real estate questions arrive during difficult moments: after a death, during a divorce, when health changes, or when retirement forces a decision. In those moments, the last thing anyone needs is a sales pitch.

The core principle of this resource is simple: selling is not always the right answer. Sometimes keeping the home, renting it, modifying it, or doing nothing yet is the better move. This site exists to help you see your options clearly, identify the questions that deserve professional attention, and approach the decision with better information.

The writing here is educational and general. Where a topic legally, financially, or medically requires a qualified professional, the guides say so explicitly rather than pretending otherwise.
